Ren Faire and Such

Ok, so it's been a few days since I last posted. Here's what's been going on:

Saturday Rob and I went to Renaissance Festival with Tammy and Tom and Carrie. I've posted a few pictures below. This was Carrie's first time ever to the Ren Faire!

I'm really tired, otherwise I'd actually post more. But, as seeing that nothing interesting is going on, and work is the same, my apartment is the same, and my life is, essentially, the same.

So, dear friends, enjoy the pictures. More to come later when I am actually awake.

Rob and I at Ren Faire. It was a fairly chilly day, so you can't really see my outfit under the cloak. Love the kilt on Rob!!

Cable Catastrophe

Well, as I sit here eating Ramen noodles for dinner, we still do not have cable. Monday we order Comcast cable. They had a promotion that we just couldn't pass up: for $50/month (for the first 6 months) we'd get digital cable with all the HBO and Starz channels AND cable modem! We figured we couldn't pass it up. So, on Wednesday, both Rob's and mine day off, we waited for the cable guy to come by (between 9 and 1, of course). He showed up around 11:30, spent around three hours, and still no cable. He could not get a signal. He said that he'd have to have another tech come by the next day. So, we let them know that somebody (Rob) will be home the next day after 4:30. Rob's home, waits, calls Comcast b/c no one's showed up, the Customer Service people he said were very nice though, and apologized that we didn't get a call telling us that no tech would be coming out today. Turns out our building was apparrently wired by monkeys (probably blind monkeys) and that they need to get in touch with building management to re-wire. Oy! So, we wait..

In the meantime, I'm nursing a numb finger. Went to a manager's meeting all the way in Troy today, and picked up some paper for our digital printer. Well, the bag was slightly heavy, and my hand was getting tired. I didn't adjust it any, because I was just walking to the car. Well, my fingers were getting numb. This was just after 2:30. Seven hours later, my middle finger on my right hand is still "asleep," not to mention a little purple. Oy.

I've finally been getting into the mood to write poetry again, but every time I get in front of my computer, I go blank. I have these great ideas floating around in my head, but as soon as the computer boots up -- nothing. Hopefully, my brain will get back into writing mode soon. The muse is floating around, and I want to write before she leaves!

Well, that's it for tonight. I'm going to finsih watching CSI. 'Nite.

Nothing Accomplished

As we all know, Bush has sent Americans to war in Iraq over "Weapons of Mass Destruction." Today the Associated Press printed an article stating that U.S. Leaks Report of No Weapons in Iraq. As of yet, over 1,000 soldiers have died. MoveOn.Org has a put up a petition on their website demanding Bush to come up with an exit strategy to this war. The final signature count will run as an ad in an issue of the New York Times next week. Please sign, as I have done, in hopes to put an end to this pointless act of agression. http://www.moveonstudentaction.org/click/s/iraqletter

The sunset over Ford Lake. Beautiful, isn't it? However, it is apparently a threat to "Homeland Security" to photograph it. Ooops! :-P
(c)NKSF

What a Dull Day!

Seriously! DULL! There was virtually no point in me even showing up to work today! Whenever there's a Michigan home game, the store is dead (The stadium is just a couple miles up the road, so no one wants to face the traffic, and can't say I blame them). But today was just exceptionally S-L-O-W. I hope tomorrow makes up for it.

On my way home tonight the sunset was just gorgeous over Ford Lake! So, being me, I naturally pulled over, pulled my camera out of the back and started taking pictures. After I get off one, maybe two shots, a police car pulls up behind and a police woman gets out. She asks me if I'm taking pictures (ummmm, yeah, duh!), and tells me that I can, but I can't stay there long due to "Homeland Security" reasons. No shit! She goes back into the car, and then waits for me to finish taking pictures, and doesn't leave until I get back into the car. Oy. Seriously, I live in Ypsi, the cops have got to have better things to do than bother some nerd taking pictures of a sunset. :-P

My mom and I did end up going to David's Bridal on Thursday. I really need to decide if I'm going to wear red, or go traditional. Either way, I found dresses. I'm still going to shop around a bit before making any final decisions.

Well, I'm going to head off to read a bit before bed. Rob is currently watching "The Apprentice." Oy Gevult! I must stop him! Before it becomes contagious! No, not "The Donald!" Help!

President Evil

Courtesy of Tammy I have found some wonderful new anti-Shrub goodies to share with you!

First, aptly named, is President Evil! Something I would be temped to do myself! Absolutely Brillant!

Next, is an article from 2001 out of The Onion. For those of you who don't know, The Onion, America's Finest Newsource is a satirical magazine, both in print and online. Quite funny! And, as Dan Chak has recently pointed out, their January, 2001 article, written to absurb and humorous, has found itself to be all too true. See for yourself: BUSH: "Our Long National Nightmare of Peace & Prosperity Is Now Over"

That's it for now.

The Craziness!!

Work has been insane! September is usually one of the slowest months in retail, and we have been swarming! Not that I mind. It's just been hectic. Mel (one of my full-timers) is on vacation (she'll be back tomorrow, though!) and I've been working crazy-long hours. Not to mention we had to re-do inventory Sunday (see my earlier archived post where I swore ALOT if you aren't already familiar with the inventory scenario). Inventory went fairly well, though. I was home before 11:00! Which is pretty impressive taking into account we took some time to celebrate Joel's Birthday (which was actually the next day, Monday the 13th) and had pizza and cake (see attached pictures). And on the audit on Monday, no major mix-ups or mishaps, so I'm happy. So, after several days in a row of working open to close, I am ready for about 12 hours of sleep! (Thank goodness Joel came in today around 3:00 to relieve me. I think I may have collapsed and fell asleep on the floor!) Even though I just finished a large coke slurpee, I'm ready to nod off here at the computer.... so much for trying to stay awake until Rob gets home from work.

On one of my upcoming days off Rob and I are hoping to see "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow." Rob has been eager to see this ever since he saw the first preview for it months ago. It's designed to look and feel like a late 1930's/early 1940's sci-fi flick. Should be fun. On one of those other days, my mother wants to go dress shopping with me. Admittedly, I'm confused by this. I can't actually imagine my mom excited about the wedding. But it seems that she is. She wants me to come over so we can go shopping. Kid you not. I think we'll just go over to David's Bridal and take a look. They're currently having their $99 sale. I'm not really looking to buy anything quite yet. I'd like to loose a few pounds first (but hey, in my current condition my mother can tell me how big my butt looks in certain dresses! Yay! She loves to do that. Ah, a critical mother. Now that's a stretch of the imagination!) Not to mention that I have to wait until I get my holiday bonus to even afford a dress. But, it'll give me a chance to look at bridesmaids dresses too.... hmmmmm, what hideous color shall I make you ladies wear? How about a baby pink frou-frou get-up with lace and a big bow? No???? Awwww. Spoil all my fun. Don't worry, don't worry, I'm not evil (this, I know, may be argued by some...) Besides, I can't pick a color that will clash with Rob's kilt! That, and I'm still seriously considering wearing red. Yes, the color RED. My wedding. My colors. :-P What, you're saying? I haven't actually asked anyone to be in my briday party yet. I know, I know. I'm trying to figure out who will actually be in Vegas, before I make any final decisions. That and since it'll be a small wedding, we might only go with a Maid of Honor and a Best Man. Rob and I haven't made any final decisions yet.

Well, I'm going to sign off for now and go take a nap on the couch until Rob comes home. It's been a looooong week and I'm fighting off a head cold. I had a miserable fever last night, and my head and ears ache. Rob says that a head cold is going around the U. Great. Just what I need. To be sick. :-P I should be able to fight it off with plenty of sleep, though (I hope).

Later!

This is the cake we had made for Joel's birthday. Unfortunately, it cracked in transit. The people at Busch's laughed when I brought the picture in to have a cake made out of it. The original picture is hanging in our lab and reads "Playboys Man of the Year 2004." I do believe the bunny ears suit him well!

Bad, Bad Rob!

Rob just picked up Everquest II. He's making characters and has now got me hooked creating characters and possibly (mind you, possibly, interested in playing)! :-P Needless to say, he's kindof geeked about this. Don't know if my little laptop can handle it though. We'll see.

I'm going to go read before bed now. Got inventory tomorrow and need plenty of sleep. Ugh -- another long, long, looooooong day ahead.

'Night.

Las Vegas, Baby!

Ok, enough waffling. It's Vegas. I did my research on having a "normal" wedding here in Michigan, and it's just outrageous! So, we're going to Vegas and getting married on Lake Mead. Case closed. Finished. Now we just have to book the wedding and I have to find a dress, but I still have time, no worries. Since Ella, who was supposed to be help me dress shop, but since she's moving to San Diego, I have no one to tell me my butt looks fat in a dress, other than my mother, and, well, those of you who know my mother... So, any volunteers to go dress hunting with me? It won't be for a bit yet. I still have to get some cash together.

Back to work today after having Labor Day and Tuesday off. Monday Katie and I took Honey (Katie's daughter) to the Ren Fest. We had a good time. Katie bought one of those flower headpieces for Honey, and she looked so cute! I, of course, bought myself a set of horns. :-) I took a few pictures, but they're all film, so you'll have to wait until I finish the roll to see anything. Rob and I will be going back to the Ren Fest for it's last weekend. Tammy and Tom will probably join us.

Well, Rob and I are going to go and pick up our pizza now, then probably watch some episodes of Stargate. Tammy had taped them and was kind enough to let us borrow them (we don't have cable).

Bye for now!

Only in America

And apparently on E-Bay. Whod've thought I could purchase my very own wind from a Hurricane! Wow. Just what I need. (please note extensive sarcasm in writer's voice).

Another Bushism

"Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."
Ummmm, yeah, ok. Any ideas as to what monkey-boy was thinking? Full story is at: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=573&e=12&u=/nm/odd_bush_dc
I just like to point out how moronic the Shrub is and to make fun of grammatical misuses.

..........

It's 10:30, I have to be at the store in a half-hour to open, I'm still in my pajamas and my hair is wet from my morning shower, Starfire cockatiel is talking to himself VERY loudly, and weddingchannel.com is of virtually no use. :-P At least tomorrow the store is closed because of Labor Day. This means I don't have to work! Yay! A day off, finally! And then I'll be working eight in a row! Including re-doing inventory (see my previous inventory post, if you're brave enough, if you don't know about, or don't remember, my little inventory fiasco in August). Tomorrow, however, I'm getting together with my friend Katie! I haven't seen her in so long! It'll be fun. We're going to the Ren Fest. Well, I really ought to go and get dressed and leave for work. More information forthcoming as soon as I figure out what the hell is going on my life...

Wedding Woes...

Oy. What a past couple of days it's been! Rob and I have started our wedding planning, and of course, as we start to plan, things get all twisted around! While my father feels that I should have whatever kind of wedding will make me happy, my mother believes it's selfish of me to have a wedding out of state. My father tells me that they'll go to the wedding -- it's my wedding, after all! My mother has been guilt-tripping me about who's going to take care of the birds and the dogs while they're gone? Not to mention she doesn't think they can afford to go out to Vegas. I'm now in a loose-loose situation. If I have the wedding in Vegas and my parents go, I'll never hear the end of how selfish I was to make them go to Vegas when they can't afford it; if they don't go, I'll never hear the end of how selfish I was to have the wedding out state. If I have a wedding here (which will cost Rob and I much more money, and cut into our honeymoon budget), my mothe will complain that I deprived them of a trip out West. Either way, I'll never hear the end of any of it, no matter what ido. So, after weighing everything, it looks like we'll be having our wedding here, in Michigan. It's not set in stone, or anything. If we do have the wedding here, we'll be pushing the date back to the summer. This will eliminate going to the Grand Canyon for a honeymoon. July or August will just be too hot. So, we're thinking maybe Canada. Possibly Toronto? I'd love to see Banff National Park or Glacier National Park. We're doing research and going to do some adding and figuring things out before we come to a final decision. Once we have everything figured out, we'll let everyone know. Until then, I'm off to do more research!
